A Cure For Wellness Movie Review

*As with all movie reviews, this is going to contain a few spoilers so if you don't want to ruin it for yourself, please feel free to skip this post*

Last night, James and I went to the cinema to see A Cure For Wellness at the Showcase at the Highcross in Leicester. The main star of this movie is Dane Dehaan so I was well up for seeing it with him being one of my favourite actors, plus the trailer made it look flippin' awesome.

I have not felt so disturbed after watching a movie as I did with this one. There were moments throughout when I could have easily got up and left. If James wasn't with me, I would have surrendered and gone home but he would have gone ape shit so I stayed and stuck it out. The storyline was awesome; intense from the start and kept you guessing right up until the end. It revolved around the story of an old Sanitarium 'spa' which was built on the foundations of a castle belonging to a Baron and his Baroness, who was also actually his sister. The Baron was that obsessed with pure bloodlines, he was adamant they would have children together to continue their own line. When he discovers his sister is infertile, he starts conducting experiments on the peasants who eventually fight back and burn the castle to the ground. They capture the Baroness and cut the unborn baby from her womb, which survives after being thrown into an aqueduct.

Dane Dehaan plays Lockhart, who is sent to the Sanitarium which is tucked away in the mysterious and remote Swiss Alps, to bring back Pembroke, who is the CEO for the company they both work for.  Basically, shit is going down within the business and the office need Pembroke to come back to pin all the mess onto. It wasn't exactly clear why Pembroke was there other than the poor guy sent a demented letter to the office explaining he wasn't well. Lockhart sets off and manages to convince Pembroke to come back to New York, but a car crash which breaks his leg forces him to be taken back to the Sanitarium and typically, he remembers nothing of the accident.

Lockhart then meets the Sanitarium's director Dr Volmer played by Jason Isaacs, who insists he stays at the spa for some rest. Lockhart is suspicious from the start and begins to investigate the entire building, discovering that the crazy experiments are still happening and that Dr Volmer is in fact the 200 year old Baron, who is surviving by taking 'the cure'.

Without spoiling the storyline anymore, there were a few scenes which I just didn't feel were necessary and they were pretty damn vulgar. There are scenes of rape, masturbation and finger sniffing…say no more. Also if you have a fear of the dentist or anything to do with teeth, you may struggle to get through this film as I did. The acting from everyone involved was incredible and although I found it highly disturbing, you can't fault that this film was very well made and there were very few plot holes for a story so twisted and macabre.

I don't regret seeing this movie one bit but it was definitely one where you'd feel terrified to go to the bathroom alone half way through the film! Dane Dehaan got so into his character and his acting was believable. Very well done to the director Gore Verbinski and writer Justin Haythe for making this movie so bloody brilliant - definitely worth a watch!

January Favourites

First off, sorry its a tad late but better late than never! Welcome to 2017's monthly favourites starting with January…obviously. This month I've been loving a few different things and its taken me a little longer to organise myself due to moving house and having no wifi - the sooner I can stop trying to hook up to BT Hotspots the better!

No Prob Llama range from Paperchase

Its no secret that my favourite animals are llamas so when I discovered this fabulous new range from Paperchase I couldn’t wait to get to my local store. I grabbed the money box, hot water bottle and the keyring but can’t wait to go and raid it all again. The hot water bottle is ridiculously soft and its not left my side especially since this month I came off the pill. The keying was also a cute little addition to my new house keys and revamping something so simple made me feel a whole lot more organised!

Rainbow Bag by Skinny Dip London

I treated myself to this beauty after spotting it on the Skinny Dip website (a regular pit-stop for me) and couldn’t resist any longer. They also offer a little discount when you sign up to their newsletter so if you’re a lover of adorable accessories you may want to get on it! This is my second purchase from Skinny Dip and honestly I’m so impressed by the quality of their products. They’re extremely well made, are long lasting and look gorgeous.

Our New House

How could I not put our new home into my favourites? It feels like luxury living here after 3 years in a cold, cramped flat but my god it makes you appreciate your hard work and the little things so much more. Coming home to a warm house is grand, snuggling under new blankets in your freshly decorated lounge (that you could choose without worrying about reverting back to plain walls when leaving a rental!) and having a carpet under your feet instead of the same wooden effect lino through the entire place…its glorious. My office is a great little escape from the world, our bedroom is lovely and fresh, cosy and Instagram worthy and our lounge looks like the inside of a chalet in the alps. I’m so very happy with it all and could easily stay here for the rest of my life.

Superdrug Face Masks
After coming off the pill this month, my skin became a little unsettled and its been super dry as well as developing a few spots here and there. Usually I have typical combination skin but since coming off the pill, my face has been so dry especially around my forehead and chin which would normally be the oilier parts of my mug. I grabbed a few of these from Superdrug as I'd not tried these flavours before and they're really cheap (I believe they're also 3 for 2!).

Baths & Lush…duh
I'm sure many people will agree, a bath is not a bath without at least one Lush product. Our new place has a bath so naturally, I've been making the most out of it and I'm glad I did because our boiler has just packed up. Grand. Nethertheless, I've been enjoying a good old soak by candlelight, lapping up all of the gorgeous scents and taking out some quality me time. Also if you've not tried a Lord of Misrule bath bomb, you're seriously missing out. Its beautiful to watch in the water and smells absolutely fabulous. I've also been enjoying the Candy Mountain bubble bar and the Butter Bear bath bomb! I also won a stunning hamper box from L'Occitane a couple of months back so I was saving these goodies for the move and I'm so very glad I did. The lavender bubble bath is to die for…so relaxing and perfect for getting ready for bed.

Notebooks in my Etsy shop
I recently ordered in some new designs for notebooks and they went into my Etsy shop during January. There are 4 new designs to choose from and I'm really pleased with how they turned out. I'm also super appreciative for all of our customers keeping us really busy throughout the start of the year and we've certainly been feeling the love with all the Valentines cards we've made!

ASMR Glow - YouTube
It's been a while since I added an ASMR video to my favourites but this girl is so relaxing and I've been listening to this video literally every night to help me sleep. She has an adorable accent and is so beautiful, I've truly been addicted to her videos this month! Again, if you haven't tried ASMR to help you to relax, give it a try :) it might surprise you!

So they are just a handful of things I've really been loving throughout January and I have plenty already lined up for February so be sure to check back for those at the end of this month! Let me know if you have tried any of these in the comments and feel free to leave any recommendations :)

Moving House

So today is the last of the moving house saga and its back to full time work for me as of tomorrow. The past two weeks have consisted of plenty of heavy lifting, decorating, clear outs, an emotional goodbye to Flat 4 and endless trips to B&Q. We've spent far too much money and eaten far too much convenience food but our new home is wonderfully cosy and full of character.

We got our keys on January 20th but didn't spend our first night here until the 22nd. We moved in as much as we could but didn't get our bed for another couple of days which is why we didn't stay the night, but going back to Flat 4 was torture. It made me wonder how we'd managed for so long in such a cramped space that was never warm and never felt clean. It was so old that no matter how much we tidied, organised or refreshed the place with new things, it always felt shabby and lacking cosiness. Our new place has plenty of space, I have an entire room dedicated to my creative streak and its lovely to feel warm for once. Its so nice being able to have a bath and get back into Lush bath bombs and bubble bars! Our first night here consisted of pizza in bed with a good film, new sheets and a bottle of Prosecco.

A downside has been the internet and as embarrassing as it is to admit I can't cope without my broadband, its literally because I miss uploading videos, blogging and being able to access my Etsy shop whenever I want. For the past couple of weeks I've had to hook up to a BT hotspot using my Mums login and its been near enough useless. It cuts out at the most inappropriate of times and I can't watch YouTube videos or upload my own content. I will say, a major hats off to the Etsy app for allowing me to keep my shop open whilst moving house. I thought I may have to close its doors for two weeks and with Valentines day fast approaching, lots of orders would have been missed out on but the Etsy app is so amazingly efficient I can process orders and renew listings on my phone. Its been super easy and organised so well done Etsy for having such an awesome app! I've also been missing ASMR videos an unbelievable amount, you wouldn't believe how much they help me sleep!

It's been a tiring couple of weeks but its been awesome spending so much time with family, learning lots of new things and finally being in our new house to call our own.

Hoping you're all doing well and thank you as always for reading!
