Journals & Watercolours

It's no secret that I've been feeling really attracted to woodland animals over the past few weeks and I think it's helping me to discover which direction I'd like to take my work in. In particular I've been loving foxes, I love their colours and how pretty they are. I can't believe anyone would want to hunt and kill these beautiful animals.

I've also started a little sketchy art journal with one of my tiny sketchbooks I bought for a trip to Rome a couple of years back which never got filled. I can be pretty lazy when it comes to keeping up with stuff like this but I'm determined to keep developing skills and experimenting more. I used to collect no end of crap to draw on, like paper bags, paper food wrappers, tags, packaging you name it. If I could draw or paint on it, I kept it so I'd like to start doing this again and building more sketchbooks.

From these foxy sketches, I tried my hand at water colour painting which I don't consider to be a strength of mine but would really like to put the time into to improve on. I may even treat myself to another watercolour palette with more colour variety as my current one is lacking shades of pinks and purples and mixing them isn't always great as they dry very quickly and is sometimes difficult to remix the exact same shade if you need it again.

I'm really excited to see where this goes and I'm wanting to make some woodland themed winter scenes for some Christmas cards later this year. I know, I know...it's way too early for the C word and I totally agree! But in the design world, you have to start thinking of it pretty early on to start getting organised and get things made early enough for those early bird customers. You'd be surprised...some makers even start their planning in January!

Thanks for reading!
